Nanci Brake Chasteen

Nanci Brake Chasteen, age 81 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023. She was born on July 6, 1942 in Princeton, WV, to the late Judson McDonald Brake and Evelyn Golden Brake. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Donald Rae Chasteen, infant daughter, Paige Golden Chasteen, brother, Judson M. Brake, III, sister in laws Martha Chasteen and Janice Kammerman, and brother in law Stanley Chasteen, Jr.

Nanci graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1960. She then moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where she became an X-ray technician, and met Donald Chasteen, who she married in 1966. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1977. Nanci went on to graduate with her Nursing degree, working at UL and Jewish Hospital where she retired in 2002. After retirement she traveled the world with her husband Don. She was heavily involved volunteering with her church, Harvey Browne Presbyterian and St. Matthew's Ministry, where she received a reward. She had a strong faith and love for Jesus Christ. Her grandson, Hunter Garrett Warrell, was a very important part of her life for the last 10 years.

Nanci is survived by her son, Mark A. Chasteen; daughter, Dana Warrell (Jason); and grandson, Hunter Warrell. Nanci is also survived by her sister, Paula Chapman; brother in law, John Kammerman; nieces, Leigh Ann Welch (Rick), Rhonda Lawson (Tony); nephews, Paul Chapman, and Dorsey Chasteen (Brenda); and a host of relatives and friends.

A celebration of Nanci's life will be 1pm on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church 311 Browns Ln, Louisville, KY 40207.

The family requests that contributions in Nanci's memory be made to Hospice of Louisville.
