Murrell Gene Cotner

Murrell Gene Cotner, 74, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after almost 40 years of service. Murrell was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling.

He was born on January 6, 1949 in New Albany to Frank and Opal (Pearson) Cotner. In addition to his parents, Murrell was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Billy, Kenny Cotner; and sister, Lucy Flick.

Murrell is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia "Ginny" Cotner; daughters, Melissa Norwood (Ryan), Cheryl Bailey (Todd); granddaughter, Samantha Norwood; sister, Lana Brear (Larry); brothers, Darryl (Patty), James (Joy) Cotner; sister-in-law, Florence Cotner; brother-in-law, Rick Flick; and several nieces, nephews and good friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with his funeral service taking place at 6:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest privately at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
