Morton Hodgson Perry, Jr.

October 9, 1941 — December 25, 2023

Morton Hodgson Perry, Jr., 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Baptist Health Hospital following a recent decline in health. He was born October 9, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1960 and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1956.

Mort was a sales representative for Olan Mills Photography in the church directory division. He enjoyed meeting new people each day as he traveled for his job. He was a devout follower of Christ and very knowledgeable in the Bible. He treasured his church friends at First Baptist Church of Middletown, especially Pastor Jim Cobban, Sharon Carr, Ray Walters, Lisa Harvey, and Margie Oliver. Even when he could not make it to church for services on Sunday, he watched a live stream production and had the bible study read to him over the phone. Mort was an avid reader throughout his life and when macular degeneration robbed him of his eyesight, he listened to countless audio books. Mort was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Mary Ann Amic Perry; his mother, Anita Rose Russell Perry; his father, Morton Hodgson Perry, Sr.; his brother, Russell Wilbur Perry (Marsha); his son, Mark Irby Elliott; and his stepson Joseph Arthur Jackson (Lynne).

Mort is survived by his brother, Robert Dow Perry, Sr. (Sherel); his daughters, Mary Heather Perry McGee (Ross) and Tammy Elliott Angelo (Chris); his grandchildren, Ryan Christopher Angelo (Arin) and William Ross McGee; his great-grandchild, Bellamy Roux Angelo; his stepdaughters, Shannon Jackson McMahon and Denise Jackson Bonnett (Edwin); his step-grandchildren, Emily Ann McMahon, Lauren Elizabeth McMahon, Owen Reid McGee, Scott Combs (McKenzie), Wesley Combs (Courtney), Anna Jackson, Rachel Jackson Myers (Drew), Lydia Jackson, Chloe Jackson, and SarahGrace Jackson. Mort is also survived by his special friend, Carole Powell; and many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Services will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Middletown, 11721 Main St, Louisville, KY 40243. The family will receive friends at the church at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 pm.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Middletown Building Fund.

Special thanks to the Heart Failure Clinic at Baptist Hospital for taking such good care of Papa Perry for the last several years. Also, thanks to the Palliative Care Department, also at Baptist Hospital, for their kind treatment that allowed for a peaceful and dignified transition into God's hands. And thanks to long lost friends that showed up right on time.
