FLOWERS, MITCHELL DALE, "MITCH," 56, of Brooks, Kentucky, passed away after a long illness on August 27, 2012.
As an ordained Southern Baptist pastor and public school teacher for more than thirty years, Mitch devoted his life to Jesus Christ and to children. He was involved over the years with the YMCA, church ministry, Awana Clubs, and Child Evangelism Fellowship. Mitch also spent the last few years teaching special education in Tracy, CA and Jefferson County, KY schools. Born in Louisville, he graduated from Pioneer High School in San Jose, CA. He completed his baccalaureate decree and two masters at San Jose City College, Golden Gate Southern Baptist Seminary, and the University of Louisville. While most of his time was spent serving others, his spare time was spent with family camping, listening to jazz, attending community concerts, visiting local museums, skiing, taking bird pictures, and fiddling with electronics.
Mitch is preceded in death by his grandparents Connie and Iris Flowers and Erskin and Fiona Gillock. He is survived by his parents Frederick "Fred" and Hattie Flowers, his wife of 33 years Cathleen "Cathy" Flowers, children Victoria (and Sandesh) Patole, Audrey Flowers, Daniel Flowers, and Sarah Flowers, siblings Marilyn (and Jose) Ocegueda, Brenda Flowers, John (and Sandi) Flowers, and other extended family.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Highview Baptist Church – Fegenbush Campus, 7711 Fegenbush Lane Louisville, KY 40228 at 10:00 a.m. for a viewing. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the International Mission Board. Donations may be made by check to Highview Baptist Church with "IMB – Mitch Flowers" on the memo line or at IMB online in memory of Mitch Flowers.
