Retired Brigadier General Milton J. Eberle, 82, of Yolo County, California, formerly of New Albany, Indiana passed away on November 12, 2012 in New Albany, Indiana. Graduated from New Albany High School in 1948 and from Sacramento State College in 1960, U. S. Air Force Brigadier General Eberle enlisted in the military in 1951 and served 6 ½ years on active duty status stationed in Harlingen AFB, Texas; Carswell AFB, Texas; and Mather AFB, California. Having entered the U. S. Air Force Reserves in 1957, he served at McClellan AFB, California as Instructor and Flight Examiner. Promoted to Brigadier General in 1976, he served our country attached to units in Maxwell AFB, Alabama; Berkeley, California, and Chico, California. He participated in missions in Korea and Vietnam.

His civilian occupations included business property owner, management investment and insurance counselor, real estate financing and development, and allied financial interests. He formerly owned the Aggie Hotel and Antique Bizarre in Davis, California. He volunteered as Commander of the Yolo County Sheriff Aerosquadron and as captain with the West Plainfield Fire Department also of Yolo County, California.

He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Hour Glass, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Unit Nations Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

General Eberle was a member of the ARPC Reserve Policy Council, the Reserve Planning Objective Council, the Air Force Association, and the Reserve Officers' Association.

He was born on June 5, 1930 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Leo E. and Mary E. (Zimmerman) Eberle. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jane (Ramsey) Eberle; daughter, Valerie Brinigar; sister, Jeanetta M. Watson; and brother, Dr. David A. Eberle.

General Eberle is survived by his daughter, Cherie Rita (Michael) and son, Milton Eberle, Jr., all of Davis, California; brother, Harold J. Eberle (Mary) of Thousand Oaks, California; sister, Phyllis (Eichenberger) Robinson (Jim) of Lanesville, Indiana; grandchildren, Amanda and Gary Eberle and Thomas J., Victoria M., and Richard M. Brinigar; great grandson, Gabe Eberle; sister-in-law, Jane Carol Eberle of Louisville, Kentucky; and many Eichenberger, Eberle, and Watson nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 10 AM Thursday in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
