Michael "Mike" Raymond Smalley passed away February 11, 2022. He was 74 years old.
He was born on July 30, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Raymond and Rachael (Poole) Smalley. He is also preceded in death by brother Don.
Mike is survived by brothers Jim, Mark, a host of nieces and nephews who loved him, and caregiver and friend Darlene Nold.
Mike was a Navy veteran who served in Vietnam. Mike found Alcoholics Anonymous on October 18, 1985, and AA became his life's passion, at one point converting his home into what he called a "3/4 way house" for recovering alcoholics. He enjoyed volunteer work, and was recognized by a local TV station for his work with Meals on Wheels. Mike helped a lot of people over the years, particularly through AA.
The family would like to recognize the efforts of Darlene, who went above and beyond her responsibilities time after time, and was a friend to Mike.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 5, 2022 at the Icehouse (1400 South Shelby Street, Louisville, KY 40217) please come share your memories about Mike.
The family requests that contributions in Mike's memory be made to "The Healing Place", or "Wounded Warrior Project"
