Michael Douglas Kunker, 66, of Louisville, passed away on July 25 at his home after a long illness.
He is predeceased by his parents Marshall and Emma Kunker, and by his sister, Madeline Javins. He is survived by his sister, Laurie Downs (Paul), his niece Kelly Floyd (Chad), and nephew, Gregory Javins (Ashely). He also is survived by five grand nieces and nephews.
Mike worked for 40 years in the cash register business. He was employed by both Canfield Cash Registers and Kline Business Solutions. He was known around town as Cash Register Mike. He serviced many restaurants, bars, and other small businesses, and was warmly welcomed and appreciated by many in the service industry.
Mike graduated from Waggener High School in 1974 and grew up in the heart of St Matthews. Throughout his life Mike loved Derby, Halloween (his birthday), and the 4th of July.
In later years he enjoyed camping and spending time with friends. One of his great joys was spending time on "the farm", where he camped, fished, and shot off the occasional firework. He especially loved driving in his 1969 Firebird convertible. At his home, he was surrounded by great neighbors and friends. Mike loved music and had a delightful sense of humor. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be from 3 PM to 6 PM on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). A service to celebrate Mike's life will follow at 6 PM at the funeral home. To view the service live on Monday evening, please click
