Michael Duwain Brazley

April 6, 1951 — February 5, 2024

Michael Duwain Brazley, age 72 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Monday, February 5, 2024.

Michael Duwain Brazley's journey began on April 6, 1951, in Louisville, Ky. He was lovingly welcomed into the world by his parents, William and Gwendolyn Brazley. He was a doting father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He was raised in a Christian home and professed his faith in God at an early age. He converted to Catholicism as an adult and later became a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. His passion for exploration took him to the far corners of the world, where he soaked in the beauty of diverse landscapes, architecture, and cultures. Each adventure added a new chapter to his vibrant story.

As the eldest of "The Magnificent 7" (siblings), Michael shouldered his responsibilities with dedication, though not always with gentleness. Despite his serious demeanor, Michael's heart was filled with warmth and kindness, especially towards his mischievous siblings who never missed an opportunity to tease him, all in good fun. Their loving jokes were a testament to the bond they shared—a bond forged in humor and affection.

Michael's love for education shone brightly through his role as a professor. His enthusiasm for sharing knowledge ignited a passion for learning in countless students, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. His commitment to excellence was evident in everything he pursued, always striving for the best and encouraging others to do the same. He was a graduate of Howard University School of Architecture and the University of Louisville School of Urban and Public Affairs (Ph.D). The family laughed about the idea of even his mother calling him Dr. Brazley.

His life was not solely defined by his professional achievements. He was a man of many accolades and affiliations, a testament to the love of his community, especially Newburg! He was a member the following esteemed organizations: American Institute of Architects, National Organization of Minority Architects, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Kentucky Colonels and Freemasons. Michael was very proud of his accomplishments as he overcame many obstacles to become the 2nd Black Registered Architect in the state of Kentucky.

The greatest joys of Michael's life were found in the company of his beloved children, Erin and Katelyn; and his cherished grandson, Evan. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, etched in the hearts of his sisters, Sharon, Ella, Toya, Jacquelyn; and brothers, William (Frances) and Carl (Jan); along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael departed this life on Feb 5, 2024. Though Michael's physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he has departed from our lives, his presence will forever linger in our hearts with the love that binds us together. Rest easy, dear Michael, your journey may have ended, but your legacy will endure for generations to come.
