Michael Barta

Michael "Mickey" Stephen Barta, 62, of New Albany, Indiana passed away Saturday evening, January 29, 2011 at University of Louisville Hospital.

Michael was born on September 1, 1948 in East Chicago, Indiana to John Louis Barta and Jeanette (Herwig) Mygrants. He spent most of his life in northwest Indiana and in 1979 married his wife, Linda. In 1981 his daughter, Stacey, was born whom he said was his greatest accomplishment.

Mickey was a faithful and loyal husband and wonderful and loving father. In 2010, he welcomed his grandson whom he adored. He enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs, was an avid reader of history books, loved watching movies, and was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Bears. "Da Bears"!

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Louis Barta and Jeanette (Herwig) Mygrants, and beloved older brother John (Jackie) Barta.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda L. Barta; daughter, Stacey Barta (John) Frye; grandson, who is named after him, Gavin Michael Frye; twin brothers, Roger (Lori) and Robert (Debbie) Barta; and sister-in-law, Diane (Richard) Snedden.

Michael's family would like to invite family and friends to attend an informal gathering at the Barta residence on Friday evening, February 4 from 4pm-8pm to celebrate his life.
