Merrel J. Bierman, 99, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Merrel was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, VFW Post 1693 in New Albany, and the Floyds Knobs Community Club. He was a proud WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was also founder of Merrel Bierman Excavating.
Merrel was born on February 4, 1924, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, to the late Arthur Bierman, Sr., and Lillian (Banet) Bierman. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Thelma (Engle) Bierman; siblings, Marcellus Bierman, Lewis Bierman, Arthur Bierman, Jr., and Patsy Egler; son-in-law, Rick Loftus; and great-grandson, Hudson Barnes.
Merrel is survived by his children, James (Nancy) Bierman, Janice (Richard) Bezy, Theresa Loftus, Tony (Cherie) Bierman, Marilyn Francke, Marcia (John) Huth, and Joe (Jana) Bierman; brother, Frank Bierman, Sr.; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana) with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Additional visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
