Merle L. Cummins, 69, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013. He fought a courageous two year battle with stage four lung cancer. Merle was an active member of the South Hoosier Street Rods, Inc. and a United States Air Force veteran.
Merle was born on December 28, 1943 in New Albany to the late Earl and Kathryn J. (Bryson) Cummins. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Shari A. (Jekel) Cummins; children, Jeff L. Cummins (Amy); and grandchildren; siblings, Don Cummins (Pat), Sue Summers (Don); and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2013 in the chapel at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A celebration of Merle's life will follow at 3 PM at the Cummins' family residence. Burial will take place at a later date at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
His family would like to thank their family and dear friends who were by their side during the final months of Merle's life. They also wish to thank the staff at Floyd Memorial's Cancer Care Center and Floyd Memorial Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Merle.
