Melvin R. Sams, Sr.

Melvin R. "Bud" Sams, Sr., 78, of Elizabeth, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023. Bud worked for Hoosier Panel for 20 years and Floyd Central School for 19 years until his retirement. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Elizabeth.

He was born on January 25, 1944, in Georgetown, Indiana, to the late Charles and Viola (Riley) Sams. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty (Rocky) Rake, Irene Sams, Shirley Peppler, Gary (Angie) Sams, and Madeline Durbin.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Vada (Meek) Sams; children, Richard (Kim) Sams, Tracy (Tim) Troutman, and Melvin "Micky" (Marilyn) Sams, Jr.; grandchildren, Amanda (Billy), Joshua (Kayla), Courtney, Hallie, Caden, and Olivia (Matt); 5 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Durbin; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
