Maxie Lee (Hunt) Golden was born February 22, 1926 to Hallie Caldwell and Maxey Lee Hunt , whom she was name after, in Fort Hill and reared in Smoketown. She was an only child.
Maxie accepted Christ and was baptized at Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. F.W. Browder.
Maxie was united to the late Robert (Rob) Herman Golden on the 12th day of July 1948. For eight years Maxie had not conceived and for eight years she prayed to God for children and she was blessed with her first child. While holding her first child, she informed her husband she was pregnant and his response was,"Maxie are you still praying"? and she replied yes! His comeback was, "Ok Maxie, you can stop praying now"!
In the year of 1958 Maxie and Rob purchased a home in the Newburg area and because she didn't drive she moved her membership to Forrest Tabernacle Baptist Church in the neighborhood. Later she became a founder member of Greater Faith Baptist Church and as the treasury.
Upon losing her husband in 1978, Maxie began to drive and went back to Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church where she was active and faithful member. As a dedicated, and committed servant to God and her church, she taught Sunday school , Vacation Bible School , member of the Senior Choir, and Wheel of Unity.
Maxie was an avid reader until she was able to read no more. She loved to read all types of novels and magazines but loved her books about her history of Blacks, but mostly she loved to read God's word.
Maxie also was committed to her neighborhood, always being there with a helping hand whether it be feeding someone, encouragement, or just a warm smile, also a volunteer tutor at Newburg Elementary School.
Maxie was called to rest March 16th at home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Herman Golden.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, Roger A. Golden and Bobbie Golden Tinker (Charles); Grandchildren, Rashad Golden (Cristal ) and Patrice Samuel; Great-Grandchildren, Xavier, Avery, Makayla, and Andrea; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday March 21st, at Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church, 1030 South Hancock Street, with Rev. Bernard Crayton officiating. Visitation will be from 6pm- 9pm Tuesday at the church.
