Rev. Maxie E. Harper, 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Maxie was the most patient, compassionate, devoted, and loving man. He loved the Lord with all his heart and served his calling as a preacher for over 50 years, 36 of those years were spent as the pastor at Louisville Baptist Temple. He loved time with his family especially his grandkids. Some of his fondest memories were playing basketball in the back yard with his kids and their friends and playing pool. Maxie will truly be missed by anyone and everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
He was born on February 8, 1942 in Glasgow, Kentucky to Charles and Jeanie (McCoy) Harper. He is preceded in death by his Father, Charles Thomas Harper, Mother, Jeanie Ruth Hood, Daughter, Marcie Harper, and Granddaughter, Kayla Brooks.
Maxie is survived by his loving Wife of 60 years, Gracie Ellen Harper; Children, Chris (Janet) Harper, Melissa Harper-Brooks, and Bradley (Beverly) Harper; Grandchildren, Emily (Adam) Massey, Amber (Chris) Stone, Ryan (Jill) Harper, Andrea (Austin) Wild, Kaylee (Chelsie) Brooks-Payne, and Maxwell Harper; Great-Grandchildren, Jaden Wild, Dylan Massey, Lily Wild, Tessa Stone, and Reece Massey; Sister-In-Law, Brenda (Gary) Board; Nephew, Brian Board, as well as a host of family and friends to cherish his memory forever.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel. The burial will be at Union Cemetery #2 (3309-3613 Nobob Rd. Summer Shade, KY 42141) on Sunday May 12, 2024 at 11:00 am CST.
The family requests that contributions in Maxie's memory be made to ALS Association.
