Max Poulter, a devoted family man and esteemed insurance professional, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, in Louisville, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 19, 1937, in Terrapin, Mercer County KY, and dedicated over 28 years of his life to his career as a General Agent for Commonwealth Life Insurance. Max's unwavering commitment to his profession propelled him to remarkable heights, earning him recognition as the number one agent in the nation for several years.
A proud graduate of Shawnee High School, Max was known not just for his professional achievements but also for his strong moral character. He embodied dedication, hard work, honesty, generosity, and loyalty - attributes that left a lasting impact on his children and grandchildren. His physical presence was always matched by a sharp sense of style, as he was known for always dressing to impress.
Max had a profound love for his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He is survived by his daughters, Sherryl L. Canterbury (Bill) and Victoria S. Leucht (Brett), and his son, Martin T. Poulter (Tracy). He found joy in the accomplishments of his grandchildren, including Beth (Luke) Corbin, Aaron (Kristen) Canterbury, Taylor (Juliann) Canterbury, and Lindsey Dorrell (Joe). Max was also a proud great-grandfather to Frank Gallo, IV, Georgianna Gallo, Madeleine Corbin, Michaela Canterbury, Cayson Canterbury, Oliver Dorrell, Calvin Corbin, and Josie Dorrell. Additionally, he shared a deep companionship with his significant other, Joyce Holland.
Max's interests extended beyond his professional life; he was an ardent sports enthusiast and a dedicated fan of the University of Louisville. He loved to travel, creating fond memories during trips to Hawaii, the Smoky Mountains, and Disney World. His passion for the Kentucky Derby was a testament to his love for traditions and celebrations, adding to the joyful experiences he shared with his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Joan B. Poulter, along with his mother, Opal Poulter; father, Rayford Poulter; son, Daniel Poulter; and siblings: Marvin Poulter, Charlotte Hardee, Maurice Poulter, and Joan Kaiser. Their memories will forever hold a cherished place in his heart.
In honor of Max Poulter's life, visitation will be held on February 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. Burial will follow services at Cave Hill Cemetery. His legacy of love, dedication, and integrity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
