Mattie Sue Hurst

November 20, 1960 — July 24, 2024

Borden

Mattie Sue Hurst had her first glimpse of glory and ran healed and whole to the arms of the Savior on July 24, 2024.

Born on November 20, 1960, in Louisville, KY. Mattie grew up in Georgetown and Borden with three siblings before marrying Richard Hurst in 1981.

Mattie eventually went to work in the school cafeteria at Borden Elementary as a “lunch lady,” and she thoroughly enjoyed that role, often putting money in students’ accounts if they didn’t have enough to get something they wanted. She also quilted and loved baking and canning. More importantly, Mattie lived in and recognized the goodness of God in every circumstance.

Mattie is a beautiful, calm, compassionate, loyal, kind spirit. Her unwavering dedication to her family and to Christ is a natural overflow of who God created her to be. She has been rescued by her King. Undoubtedly, she was greeted by those who preceded her in rescue, including her mother, Sylvia Allen, her mother-in-law Roseann Hurst, and her sister-in-law Lori Klein before they all took off with a shout!

Along with her husband, she is survived by her two children, Samantha Hurst and Logan Hurst; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Conner, Macie, Carter, Morgan, and Miley; her siblings Eugene Allen, Rose (Gary) Elliott, and Francie (Troy) Walton; her father-in-law Eldon Hurst; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Mattie’s wishes are to be cremated with a Home-going Celebration to be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be sent to Borden Elementary or Borden High School for the Cafeteria Angel Fund to help students in need.
