Matthew Kirk Sanford was born January 19, 1976 in Louisville KY and passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 16, 2020 in Bullitt County, KY at age 44. Matthew lived in Louisville KY his entire life.
Matthew loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed spending time on the lake, participating in Scouts, and really loved playing ball from the time he could first hold one. He played T-ball as a young child and continued on to play on the Little League All-Star team. He played church basketball and tennis, but most of all, he loved playing golf. He played on the boy's golf team at Louisville Male High School and continued to play throughout the rest of his life. Matthew thoroughly enjoyed his time working at the Charlie Vettiner Golf Course and continued to improve his golf game under the direction of the Pro, Carl Owen, his friend and mentor. Matthew enjoyed going to church and was a longtime member at Southeast Christian Church.
After a car accident at 18, Matthew struggled with the results of a Traumatic Brain Injury. But with the support of Access Community Assistance and his doctor Ben Schoenbachler, he was able to live an independent life and continued to do some of the things he loved. The family would like to thank all of the healthcare providers that helped Matthew over the years. Matthew brought joy to his family and friends with a contagious smile and was liked by everyone who met him.
Matthew was preceded in death by his much loved uncle, Bill Burchett. Matthew is survived by his mother, Debbie Sanford, father, Rodney Sanford, younger brother, Aaron Sanford, his grandmother, Ruth Burchett, his uncle, Larry Burchett (Cyndi), his uncle, Mark Sanford (Becky), and multiple cousins.
