Mary Jane (Wilkerson) Tolbert

Mary Jane (Wilkerson) Tolbert, 92, of New Albany, Indiana, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 3, 2018, surrounded by her family. Mary was a life-long member of Galatian Missionary Baptist Church in New Albany. She joined the church at a young age and remained a faithful member until her death.

Mary Jane was dedicated to her children and loved the Lord. She also enjoyed to sing, laugh, and make others laugh. She was a people person and enjoyed anyone's company. Mary Jane worked hard to provide for her children and encouraged them to live a Christian life.

She was born on August 22, 1926 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Charles and Mary (Carter) Wilkerson. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, John Chesley Tolbert; son, Robert Ratliff; and siblings, William Jones, Leonard Wilkerson, Charles Wilkerson, Fallis Wilkerson, Troyd Douglas, and Dorothy Gary.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Donald Norris (Nora), John Tolbert, Sr. (Pamela), Pamela Bowman (Gerald), Monica Tolbert, Diana Williams, Ronald Tolbert (Annette), Stephanie Tolbert; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Mary Jane will be greatly missed, but loved forever in her family's hearts.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, (2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany) with her funeral service taking place at 1 PM. Burial will follow at West Haven Cemetery in New Albany.
