Mary Staten
Mrs. Mary M."Margie" Staten, age 79 passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010. She was a former elementary school principal and teacher with 29 years of service as a Principal at Slaughter and Johnsontown Road Elementaries, and as a teacher at St Raphael, St. Paul, Byck and an assistant Principal at Young Elementary.
She was a member of Jefferson County and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Alumni of Presentation High School, Spalding University and University of Louisville.
She is survived by her husband Joe Staten; sons, Mike (Judy); and Greg "Shorty" Staten: daughters, Marta Thomason (Mike);Laurie Shields (Mike); Vickie Staten: and Jenny Brown (Ken); brother,Bill Hogan: sisters, Rose Tesi; Patricia McLaughlin; Burdeen Hogan; and Kathleen Parker; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral ceremony will be 11:30 AM Monday, September 27, 2010 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with visitation Sunday noon-7PM and after 10:30 AM Monday, Entombment to follow the funeral ceremony at Louisville Memorial Gardens East, 11601 Ballardsville Rd Hwy 22 Louisville, Ky.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Margie Staten Education Fund for Movement Disorders,U.of L. HSC Development Office,132 East Gray Street Louisville, KY 40202.
