Mary Elaine Sheets

Mary Elaine Sheets, 76, of Clarksville, Indiana was reunited with Jesus and loved ones on September 12, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles William Pittman; mother, Irene Hogue Pittman; brother, Charles Wayne Pittman; daughter, Sherri Sheets Popplewell; and her loving husband of 45 years, Michael T. Sheets.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Sheets and Shellie Sheets Stewart (Lonnie); grandsons, Joshua and Justin Stewart (Brooke); her precious great-grands, Emma Stewart and Mason Stewart; and Emily Chapman (Emma's mommy).

A member of Graceland Baptist Church for 51 years, she was actively involved and volunteered for many meals, the festival of lights, freezing cold in the nativity with the animals, sitting in the prayer chapel praying for others, cleaning of new buildings, and her favorite, making Christmas boxes for Samaritans Purse. In later years, health issues kept her from attending regularly, but she kept up with her Sunday School class prayer list and regularly sent out cards.

Elaine was a life long cashier at A&P, Greyhound, Center Plate for 13 years, and Old Time Pottery. She was also a supervisor of housekeeping at the Galt House with one of her best friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, or National Federation of the Blind of Greater Louisville.
