Mary Kathleensavagerussell Barko

October 15, 1918 — May 15, 2014

Mary Kathleen Savage Russell Barko

Mary Kay was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 16, 2014.
Mary Kathleen Savage was born on October 16, 1918 in Detroit to Mary (Mae) Brown Savage and John Michael Savage. A few years later the family was blessed with the birth of another daughter Cecilia Delores. The family spent time in Detroit and Clearwater, Florida each year.

In 1940 Mary Kathleen and Albert Charles Russell were joined in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony at Dun Scotis Monastery and began their lives as husband and wife. They settled in the Detroit area where Albert worked at Ford Motor in Dearborn for thirty years. Al and Mary Kay were blessed with the birth of three children, Richard Charles, John Robert and Marilyn Mae. Al retired from Ford in 1972 and Al and Mary Kay moved to Clearwater Florida. Al passed away in 1978 and Mary Kay remarried in 1983 to Arpad (Art) Barko and they continued to live in Clearwater. Art passed away in 2000 and Mary Kay relocated to Louisville Kentucky.

Mary Kay and her sister remained close until Ceilia's death. They were best friends throughout their lives and it was rare to see one without the other.
Mary Kay is survived by: Son John Russell (Shirley), daughter Marilyn Ross (Richard), daughter-in-law Cecilia Russell (Richard deceased) and step-son William Barko (Laura), and niece Mary Sue Veltman (Mark).

Mary Kay leaves a family legacy with five grandchildren, Carolyn Kile (Kent), Colleen Yarber (William), Kevin Russell (Carey), Bridgette MacLean (Tom), Rosemarie McDaniel, (Rob), Five step-grandchildren, Susan Schoettmer, Tina Prater, Julie Germany, Tim Barko and Connie Barko and fourteen great-grandchildren.

We are thankful to our Heavenly Father that Al and Mary Kay were married so many years ago. That Holy Union has given us life and will bless generations yet to come.
