Mary Jo Ann Barbour, 79, of Louisville, Ky., beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024. Throughout her life, Mary Jo could best be described as a strong Christian woman, finding time for her family, faith, and church.
Mary Jo instilled her love of family in her children, who gathered together to support her during her final days.
Mary Jo was born July 11, 1944, in Muskegon, Michigan, but lived most of her life in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1962.
On January 26, 1962 Mary Jo Bailey married her beloved husband William Randall Barbour, and raised a family of three in Shelbyville, KY, until Randall passed in 2004.
Throughout her life, Mary Jo demonstrated her love of faith, serving as Volunteer Coordinator and Benevolence Counselor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville for over 10 years. Mary Jo was passionate about her mission work to serve and help others. She traveled around the globe to do missionary work, uplifting the human spirit through Christian faith, prayer, and education.
Mary Jo took great pride from watching her family tree grow multiple branches, and delighted in the individual achievements, milestones, graduations, weddings, births, and good-hearted deeds of her children and her grand and great grandchildren. She inspired those around her to draw strength from family, faith, and Jesus.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband William Randall Barbour, her brothers, Roy Bailey and Darrell Bailey, and her sister Valendia Ott.
She is survived by her brother Doug Bailey, 3 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Southeast Christian's Chapel in the Woods (1407 Moser Rd, Louisville, KY 40299) with a funeral ceremony following at 12:00 PM that day at the chapel. A graveside service will immediately follow the funeral at Grove Hill Cemetery (458 Mt. Eden Road, Shelbyville, KY 40065).
