Mary D. Hilk

Mary D. (Ellegood) Hilk, 74, of Georgetown, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and personal Savior on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

She was born on April 9, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Herbert Ellegood and Lorena (Harden) Ellegood. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Buddy Russell, Bill, Doug, and Ronnie Ellegood.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Norman Hilk; daughters, Laura Mills (Darren) and Sandy Conrad; brother, Robert Ellegood (Judy); sister-in-law, Linda Ellegood; grandchildren, Andrew Mills (Ashley), Cameron Mills, and Savannah Stover (Dakota); great-granddaughter, Lillian Rose Mills; bonus granddaughter, Becca Brosmer; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She graduated from The Academy of Shawnee High School in 1966. Mary seldom missed a Sunday service at church. She was a faithful member of Shawnee Baptist Church for many years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. After moving to Southern Indiana, Mary became a member of Victory Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School to preschool-aged children for several years. She then joined her family at Georgetown Southern Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshipping and praising Jesus.

Spending time with family was what made Mary's heart overflow with joy. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, so much so, that when they were just babies until they started school, she took care of them while their parents worked, so that she could spend time with them. Her legacy of loving her family and friends beautifully and fiercely will live on in the hearts of those that knew her. To know Mary was to love her. Some of her hobbies were writing poetry and working Sudoku puzzles. She was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and his music. She even enjoyed watching Elvis impersonators. In recent years, Mary discovered the love of football and watching her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Edwardsville (Tunnel Hill) Cemetery in Georgetown, Indiana.
