Mary Jean Halbleib, born April 30, 1935, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, with her husband, Leo, and daughter, Sharon by her side. Mary Jean was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's of the Knobs Catholic Church for 44 years.
Mary Jean attended St. Columba School and graduated from Loretta High School. She received her RN from Saint Mary and Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing. She met Leo when she was a student nurse and they married on May 18, 1957. From that day nearly 67 years ago, Mary Jean and Leo's love and devotion to each other and their family was without measure. She was generous with her time and heart as a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mary Jean raised 4 children and practiced nursing, working at St. Mary and Elizabeth in Louisville, KY, Methodist Hospital In Houston, TX, and as a home health nurse. She volunteered her time assisting at her children's schools, being a Girl Scout Leader, serving as a board member of Life Advocates and Southern Indiana Right to Life. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, traveling, genealogy and bird watching. Mary Jean treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her father Cornelius Daily; her mother, Lula Tuell Daily (who passed away one week after her birth); her brothers, James T. Daily and Irvin A. Daily; and her Aunt and Uncle, Louise and Theodore Meisner (who along with her father raised her). She is survived by her loving and ever-dedicated husband, Leo Halbleib; her 4 children, Tim Halbleib (Mary); Mary Taylor (Frank); Bridget Keating (John); and Sharon Halbleib; grandchildren, Angelina, Claire (Brad), Catherine, Marie, Frank, Kellie, Laura, and Claire (Andy); great-grandchildren, Jolene and Liliana, Chase, Ava, Dylan, Lidia; grand-dogs, Lennie and Molly.
Mary Jean's family extends our sincere thanks to the many family and friends who provided endless love and unfailing support throughout her illness. We appreciate the care and concern that Norton's Cancer Center, Dr. Jeffery Hargis, Dr. Tiffany Berry, and Hosparus showed her. Your loyalty and dedication
helped ensure her needs were always met with smiles and warmth.
