Mary E. (Goss) Obremski-Buckel, 85, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in New Albany. A teacher's aid for the New Albany/Floyd County School Corporation at the former Lillian Emery Elementary School for 25 years, she was currently employed at WorkOne in New Albany. Mary was very active in the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693 Ladies' Auxiliary as a life member and past president and was also a member of the American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28 in New Albany. She was an avid bowler involved in two bowling leagues.
Mary was born on March 24, 1926 in Palmyra, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Obremski and William M. Buckel; mother, Estella (Schamel) Goss; daughter, Cynthia Obremski-Emily; sister, Ruby Austin; brothers, Nelson and Melvin Goss; and grandchildren, Duane Obremski and Nicholas Olson.
She is survived by her children, Russell Obremski of New Albany, Kim Obremski-Shelton of Winter Haven, FL, Sheila Obremski-Bliss and Lorna Buckel-Hoeppner (Marty), all of New Albany, Billie Buckel-Olson of Sellersburg, IN, and John Buckel (Stacy) of New Albany; son-in-law, Roger Emily of Charlestown; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM Friday, December 16, 2011 and 10 AM to 12 PM Saturday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 1 PM on Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church (1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany, IN 47150) followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, Indiana.
