Mary Catherine (Harmon) Harritt, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Bee Hive Homes in Georgetown, IN.
She was born January 30, 1923 in Taswell to the late Iler & Nellie Harmon. Mary was a licensed beautician, homemaker and co-founder of Harritt Insurance with her late husband Allen. She was a caring wife, encouraging mother and a devoted member of Tunnel Hill Christian Church. Mary was a true optimist. She loved life and everyone she came in contact with and was always ready for the next adventure.
Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Allen H. Harritt, her brothers Charles, Robert & her twin William; and sisters, Thelma Crews, Elnora Longest and Leone Peyton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Kenny Gerry, her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Mary Ann Harritt; grandchildren, Jon Gerry, Mendy (Mike) Christensen, Chad Gerry, Ben (Lauran) Harritt and Hunter Harritt; great-grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Dietrich, Jonathon Gerry, Stephen Gerry, Avery Christensen and Kipton Harritt; and great-great-grandchildren, Gabe and Gemma Dietrich.
Visitation will be from Noon to 8 PM Friday, August 16, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, and 9 to11 AM Saturday at Tunnel Hill Christian Church. Her Funeral Service will be 11 AM Saturday at Tunnel Hill Christian Church with burial to follow in the Edwardsville Cemetery.
The family wants to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Bee Hive Homes for their compassionate and professional care. In lieu of flowers Mary had requested donations to Tunnel Hill Activity Center.
