Marvin "Dean" Atkins, 71, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. He was a United States Army veteran that served his country during the Vietnam War. Dean retired as a machinist from Beach Mold & Tool in New Albany after 34 years of employment. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Lafayette Township Fire Department and a member of the American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 1693. Dean enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as playing Pokemon Go and Final Fantasy.
He was born on December 12, 1948, in New Albany, Indiana, to Theresa "Loretta" (Banet) Atkins and the late Marvin E. Atkins. Dean was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Rice) Atkins.
Along with his mother, Dean is survived by his daughter, Paula Marler; sons, Todd Bolton (Amber) and Michael Atkins (Renee); brother, Neal Atkins; sister, Brenda Jones (Michael); grandchildren, Olivia, Christian, Grace, Tre, Kaydi, and Mattea; and fur babies, Iggy, Giz, Romey, Charlie Ray, and Miles Dean.
Services will be held privately at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany), and Dean will be laid to rest at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society (1640 Lyndon Farm Court, Suite 104, Louisville, KY 40223).
