Martha Jean Gray
February 22, 1942 — May 31, 2018
Martha Jean Gray, 76, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 very peacefully with her husband and kids by her side after a very long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Martha retired from JCPS Food Service and Rueff Lighting. Martha was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She was born on February 22, 1942 to Agnes Marie (Steier) and Frank Kaelin. She is preceded in death by her parents along with brothers Jack, Chuck, Ken and Jim Kaelin. Martha enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, getting together with her sisters and laughing.
Martha is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Gray, Sr. She is survived by her children Rhonda Embry (Roger), William Gray, Jr. and Shannon Blair (Tony). She is survived by grandchildren Alyson, Amanda, Evan, Megan, Cody, DJ, Taylor and Brayden. She has three great grandchildren Addison, Brady and Ella with two more on the way. Martha is survived by five sisters Patricia Bindner, Joyce Green, Clara Watts, Mary Hagan and Virginia "Jay" Middleton. Martha also had a very special caregiver, Lisa Pfister, for the last several years of her life that not only brought joy and friendship to Martha but also her entire family.
A special thank you to Park Terrace Health Campus staff for making Mom feel at home for the past five months. Also, special thanks to the doctors, nurses and Hosparus staff at Norton's Brownsboro Hospital for all of the exceptional care they provided to Mom and our family in her final days.
Martha's family has a special place in their hearts for helping others suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's. The family asks that donations be made in Martha's memory to Pearl's Memory Babies which is a non-profit organization that delivers baby dolls to those stricken with Dementia and Alzheimer's to comfort them. Donations can be made at www.PearlsMemoryBabies.com or mailed to Pearl's Memory Babies, P.O. Box 74, Shepherdsville, KY 40165.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) from 3:00pm-8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Resthaven. A celebration of Martha's life will be held at Shannon's house following the burial.
