Mark Owen Hartman, 72, of Salem, IN passed away on October 3rd in Louisville, KY following a car accident a week earlier which also claimed the life of his wife, Cynthia Powell Hartman.
Mark was a graduate of Butler High School and Western Kentucky University for his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Mark was employed for 37 years with Jefferson County Public Schools as a Teacher, Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel, Elementary Principal, and Principal of Early Childhood.
Before his career in education, Mark was an Active Duty Sergeant in the United States Air Force. After retirement, Mark moved to Salem, IN and enjoyed country living at his 16-acre home. He became very active in his community, including serving on the Washington County Planning Commission and East Washington Rural Water Corp Board of Directors. He loved Canton Christian Church and his church family, where he became involved over the past several years.
Amongst all of Mark's many accomplishments, the greatest of these may be his kindness, humility, and constant service to others. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a fun grandfather and protective brother.
Mark leaves behind his three children, Noah Hartman, Rebekah McIlvoy (Corey), and Rachel Ennis (Terry); six grandchildren - Bowen Daniel, Makenzi McIlvoy, Viviann Hartman, Whitney Hartman, Asher Ennis, and Ireland Ennis; and sister Connie Rodosky (Robert). Mark was preceded in death by his father and mother, Louis and Betty Hartman; brother, Louis Hartman, Jr.; first wife, Ann Bohannon Hartman, and second wife, Cynthia Powell Hartman.
Mark's visitation will be on Sunday, October 8th from 1 to 6 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243). His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 9th at 11 AM at Chapel in the Woods (1407 Moser Rd, Louisville, KY 40299). A private burial service will be held on Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville.
