Marie Ardell Redd, 91, was born September 1, 1931, to the union of Edward Ulysses Stubbs and Marie Eckols Stubbs in Louisville, Kentucky. She was called home to be with Almighty God and the ancestors on January 1, 2023.
Marie was the third of four children, two brothers, John Robert Stubbs and Simon Nathaniel Stubbs, and one sister, Mary Frances Stubbs, all of whom preceded her in death. She was educated in the Louisville Public School System. She graduated from Louisville Central Colored High School, later attending secretarial training.
She met and later married Mark Redd and they were married for forty-nine years. From that union, they had one son, whom Marie loved, Michael Lawrence Redd. He preceded his mother in death in 2019.
Marie professed her belief in Christ at an early age. She became a member of Quinn Chapel AME under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Reid. She served the church in many capacities: Sunday School Teacher, Steward, Trustee and Senior Choir. She was also an avid bowler. She loved U of L Basketball, Kentucky Derby activities and helping others.
Sweet memories of her life will be cherished. A loving woman of God with loving, unselfish character, she leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 1901 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, KY 40201, from 10am-11am with a celebration of Marie's life beginning at 11am.
Marie will be laid to rest at Lebanon National Cemetery, 20 State Hwy 208, Lebanon, KY 40033.
