Marian L. Vasser

August 30, 1946 — January 28, 2024

Marian Lucille Vasser, affectionately known as Cookie, was born August 30, 1946, in Louisville Kentucky. Cookie was the third of five children born to William Jewell and Lucille (Payne) Griffith. She attended DuValle Junior High and graduated from Central High School in 1964. She loved to sing in the DuValle Glee Club and Central HS chorus. Cookie later moved to Detroit Michigan, where she earned an associate degree at Detroit's Business School and united in marriage with Joe Vasser. She later returned to Louisville until God called her home.

She gave her life to Christ at a very early age, while attending Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, and exemplified the love of Christ always and in all ways. She was a faithful member of Canaan Christian Church. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23, which is fitting for a woman who never rested in worry. She would often tell us "Don't worry about it, trust God". Cookie had a way of calming the storm, magnifying the lesson, and encouraging people through the most difficult of times. She was the absolute funniest, sharp-tongued, family-oriented, woman of God you will ever meet. Her life was not only a testament to God's goodness, but it also drew people closer to God. If we had more Cookie's, everyone would be saved. You couldn't be around her long without wanting more of what she was connected to. Cookie's beautiful smile and kind spirit will be missed tremendously. May the family hold on to and water all she planted in each of you. Water it with anticipation knowing she is ALWAYS with and encouraging us to keep God first and keep moving forward. Family over everything!

She is preceded in death by her parents, older brother William Jewell Griffith Jr., nieces June Griffin and Tia Griffith, great nephew Travis Griffin, a host of other relatives, and best friend Joyce Pennington Brooks.
She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings: Myrtle Taylor, William Azeez, and Karen Fisher; children: Andrea White (Demetrius Stroud), Karen Vasser, Marian R. Vasser, Jewel Vasser (Craig Smith), and William Vasser (Leesha); grandchildren: Breyon, Devon, Donneya, Trey, A'mya, Destiny, William Jr., Tavon, Tobias, Dillon, Andrae, Dalton, William Jewell; great grandchild: A'Riah; best friend Georgetta "Aunt Pinky" Owens, and a host of relatives and friends.
