Margaret F. Gunn Schicker, a beloved matriarch, was called home on October 9, 2024, in her cherished hometown of Lanesville, Indiana. Born on September 10, 1940, Margaret was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.
From a young age, Margaret embodied compassion and kindness, traits that would define her life. With a servant's heart, she dedicated herself to helping others, always seeking ways to lend a hand and enhance the lives of those around her. Her commitment to her community was evident through her lifelong membership at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she found solace and purpose.
Margaret's greatest joy came from her family, particularly her grandchildren, whom she cherished above all. She took immense pride in their achievements and delighted in being an active part of their lives. Each moment spent with them was a treasure and her spirit will forever live on in their hearts.
An avid gardener and canner, Margaret found happiness in God's creation. Her green thumb reflected her nurturing nature and through her canning, she shared not only the fruits of her labor but also her love with each jar of homemade delights.
Margaret leaves behind her loving daughters, Tammie (David) Neel and Jackie (Bruce) Hardesty, along with her step-children, Candy Engle (David Bratton), Cindy Casto, and Larry Schicker. She was the proud grandmother of Cory Neel, Lexi Neel (Ryan Zienert), Camden Hardesty, Jaden Hardesty, Josie Hardesty, Kendyl Hardesty, Michael Engle, Steven Engle, Jennifer Spencer, and Jessica Casto. Additionally, she is survived by three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Marcella Cruseturner, Tom (Pat) Gunn, Rose (Tom) Simms, Donna (Kenny) Crawford, Hank (MaryAnn) Gunn, and Pam Gunn; sister-in-law, Betty Gunn; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick "Bud" Schicker; parents, Robert Gunn and Alvina Schlageter Gunn; and her siblings, Robert Gunn, Darlene Vigil, Kenneth Gunn, and Patricia Gaines, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
As we remember Margaret, let us carry forward the love and kindness she so freely shared. Her spirit will continue to inspire those of us who remain, guiding us to embrace life with the same warmth and compassion that she embodied until her final days. In the hearts of her family and friends, Margaret Schicker will always be a source of love and light.
