Margaret Josephine Carter

Margaret J. Carter, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

She was born on February 15, 1942, in Louisville, KY to Roberta E. Mason and JosephH. Carter, Sr. She attended Saint Augustine Catholic School, where she was baptized and received her first communion. She graduated from Central High School in 1960 and later attended the University of Louisville (UofL), in pursuit an accounting degree, before dedicating her life to that of a devoted mother and family matriarch. She was an avid basketball fan, following UofL basketball as well as the athletic careers of her daughter, Tracye and son, Jeffrey. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, developing new friendships, barbequing, playing cards, and on occasion, sewing. Margaret will forever be remembered as a kind, generous, OUTSPOKEN soul that
would do anything for her loved ones.

Margaret is preceded in death by her mother, Roberta E. Jackson; father, Joseph H. Carter, Sr.; stepfather, Kelly Jackson Sr.; siblings, Joseph "Jody" and Alan Carter, Myrna Dale, Ray and William Jackson; and children, Tracye Cousin, Erica, Jeffrey, and Andre Carter.

She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Stephanie Carter; grandchildren, Michael Williams, Talona Yarbrough, Jeffrey Fenell, Timia Lockett, Dayqwan, Candace, Everett, Courtney, Jaylynn, Donyale, Desmond, Tia, Draylyn, Brittany, and Eric Carter; brother, Kelly "Jackie" Jackson, Jr.; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions-Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
