Marcus L. Reed

Marcus L. Reed was born on August 6, 1968 to the late L.V. Reed and Dorothy Anna Reed in Louisville, KY. He received Christ and was baptized at an early age. Marcus enjoyed over 10 years of companionship with his significant other, Malaya Harris.

If you knew Marcus, you loved him, because he was free spirited and never met a stranger. He was the baby of the family and wanted everyone to get along. Marcus enjoyed playing poker, cornhole, and was a huge fan of the Louisville Cardinals. Marcus was well known for his infectious smile and ability to make all those around him laugh. Anyone who met him, knew a man who helped and supported those around him, in any way he could. Marcus was a jack of all trades; doing carpentry and flooring among other things. He was many things to many people, but one of the roles he took the most pride in was being a father to his son Grandaddy to his grandchildren. He loved them very much and Marcus would talk about them all the time.

Throughout his life, Marcus developed a love of cooking from his dad. He also really enjoyed grilling. Marcus used his excellent grilling skills and cooking to achieve one of his biggest goals, opening M&M Bar-B-Q with Malaya Harris. He even had a special sauce that his dad taught him how to make. Marcus & Malaya used the business to express their love for making great food but they also used it to serve the community in various ways. Marcus had some of his happiest moments when he was cooking his food and always smiled when anyone complimented him on how good it was. He knew good food and conversations created lasting connections so that's what he did through M&M. Marcus would do anything for anyone and was simply a joyous person to be around.

Marcus is preceded in death by his parents; L.V. Reed and Dorothy Anna Reed; and siblings Ricky Reed, Timothy Reed, William Ratliff, and Arthur Ratliff. He leaves to cherish his memories, his partner of 10 years Malaya Harris; his son Eric Reed (Brittney); sisters Donna Collins, Linda Gough (Sylvester), and Lisa Reed; brothers Gregory Reed, Keith Reed, Derrick Reed, and Vernon Ratliff (Joyce); 3 grandchildren Trinity, Elias, and Elani, and an abundance of relatives, loved ones, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at Forest Baptist Church, 4500 Petersburg Rd, Louisville, KY 40218. A service to celebrate his life will follow visitation at 1:00 pm on Friday at the church.
