Marcella P. Smith, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Marcella dedicated over 30 years of her life as a teacher at Gilmore Lane Elementary. Her enduring passion for education left a lasting impact on her students and community.
Family was everything to Marcella. She delighted in attending her grandchildren's sporting events, particularly their drag racing adventures, always cheering them on with enthusiasm. A devoted fan of the University of Louisville, she took pride in her season tickets and supported her team. Marcella also enjoyed many joyful moments square dancing alongside her husband, John, creating a treasury of cherished memories. She was a constant presence at family gatherings, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Born on November 4, 1929, in Harlan County, Kentucky, Marcella was the daughter of Garrett and Margaret (Meadows) Parks. She is reunited in memory with her beloved husband, John M. Smith, her parents, and her grandson Jeffrey William Alvey, as well as her siblings Doris Dever, Thelma Flynn, and Earl Parks.
Marcella leaves behind her loving family which includes her daughters, Debra S. (David) Alvey and Kathryn S. (Bill) Bargas; grandchildren Jeremy David Alvey, William Bargas III, Tangy Bargas, and Makhola Bargas; and great-grandchild Kyelyn Logan. Additionally, she is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). The visitation will resume on Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Marcella will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
