Madoris L. (Wolfe) Francis, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Madoris was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in New Albany. She co-owned with her husband Francis' Grocery Store and Oasis Swim Club in New Albany. She was a member of the Pilot Club where she enjoyed making candy for Harvest Homecoming each year and working on other community projects. She was an excellent cook who loved preparing food for others. Madoris was an avid quilter who fashioned many beautiful quilts over the years.
Madoris was born on March 11, 1919 in Harrison County, Indiana to the late John and Jenny (Martin) Wolfe. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Preach" Francis; son, Melvin Francis; granddaughter, Kristi Harvey; and five brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Francis of New Albany; sister, Gayle Rice of Anderson, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael Francis of Bicknel, Indiana, Pam Emerick of New Albany, Bryan Francis and his wife, Sheryl of Georgetown, Indiana, and Shelly Jones and her husband, Ric of Carmel, Indiana; eight great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and from 12 to 2 PM on Friday. Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM on Friday, March 11 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
