Lynn Rogers Murray, 92, passed away on December 8, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on December 5, 1932, in Louisville, he was a revered member of his community and a cherished figure within his family. His positive attitude and sense of humor brought joy to his friends and family, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Lynn was a loving husband to the late Jacqueline Murray, and a devoted father to Laura Shaw (Mark), Jack Murray (Lori), Greg Murray (Diane), Chris Murray (Sherry), and Lee Murray (Melita). He was also a proud grandfather to Meagan Rose, Blair Murray, Justin Murray, Clayton Murray, Ashley Adams, Matthew Murray, Landon Murray, Sarah Leibovitz, and Taylor Murray, and nine great-grandchildren. His sisters, Helen Howard and Mary Sargeant, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Violet Murray, a brother Thomas Murray, and sisters Ruth Klosterman and Virginia Murray.
Lynn graduated from Louisville Male High School, and received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kentucky and was also a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Lynn's passion for sports, particularly UK athletics, was a defining aspect of his life. He loved coaching his sons in football and baseball, influencing many young lives along the way. His service in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1955 showcased his commitment and dedication to his country.
Professionally, Lynn was a successful insurance broker with Allstate and Underwriters, where he made significant contributions over a span of 40 years. His deep faith was expressed through his active participation in the Southeast Christian Church and its Masters Men choir, embodying his devotion and community spirit.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 11:00 am until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). Burial will follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and The American Cancer Society, causes that were important to him.
