Lydia Jane Jackson

Lydia Jane Jackson, born on November 25, 1973, in New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, in Sellersburg, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family. Lydia devoted herself to caring for others, yet her greatest passion was being a caretaker to her family. Her family was her world, and she poured her love and energy into every aspect of their lives.

Lydia's warmth and cheerful spirit were especially evident in her interactions with children. Whenever there were little ones around, you could always find Lydia engaged with them, sharing her joy and affection. Her kind-hearted nature touched the lives of all who knew her, and she cherished her time spent shopping, spending money when she could, and reveling in life's special moments with the love of her life, Stirrel.

She was not only a dedicated caretaker at home but also a proud member of Emmaus Road Church, where she found community and connection that enriched her life.

Lydia is survived by her beloved children: son, Raymond "Austin" Robards; daughter, Marriah Carol (Tyler) Higdon; son, Joshua Louis Masticola; and daughter, Erika Renee Jackson. She was a grandmother to two cherished grandchildren, Oaklee and Miles, in addition to being a devoted sister to brother, George R. (April) Robards. Lydia also leaves behind her nephew Gregory Robards, along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and her best friend Rebecca Shoots.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stirrel Jackson, Jr., her parents, Raymond Louis Robards Jr. and Janice Carol Robards, her sister, Rhonda Gayle Meredith, and her brother, Raymond Louis Robards, III.

Visitation services for Lydia will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. The visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family requests that contributions in Lydia’s memory be made to American Cancer Society.
