Lyda M. (Lockman) McWhirter, 78, of Floyds Knobs, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011. She was a devout Christian and an over 65 year member of Heartland Nazarene Church in Floyds Knobs. Lyda loved to go RVing and was a member of the Hoosier Knob Antique Car Club. Her favorite spot where she could often be found was sitting outside on her front porch swing.
Lyda was born on August 8, 1932 to the late Kenneth and Edna (Davis) Lockman. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jean Pritchett.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roger McWhirter; children, Cindi Williams and her husband, Dean, Ed Batman and his wife, Marcella, Kenny McWhirter and his wife, Rachel, Debbie Fortner and her husband, Gary, all of Floyds Knobs, Denise England and her husband, Jeff, of Marengo, IN, Roger Johnson and his wife, Lori, of Phoenix, AZ; siblings, Norris Lockman and his wife, Wilma, of Cory, IN, Cecil Lockman and Lelah Herman, both of Floyds Knobs; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 9:30 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
