Me Lucy Peregrina O'Farrill died on July 2, 2016.
I am survived by my three children: Charles (Chuck) Huber, Jr. - who was my rock, my protector and my strength. He showed me how much a son can love his mother by his deeds and actions. Because of his love, faith and encouragement in my fighting spirit - I was able to keep going; Richard (Rick) Huber who encouraged me to remain cheerful and optimistic; Deborah (Debbie) Huber, who was my medical consultant, who gave me good advice in dealing with my cancer and my pain and who encouraged me to never give up. Robert (Bobby) Huber was my youngest son and left this world at the young age of 37.
I had six grandchildren: Rachel, Samantha, Erran, Emalee, Matthew and Todd. I am survived by five of those grandchildren. Samantha left this world at the young age of 22. I am also survived by five great-grandchildren: Mara, Ella, Sophia, Arianna, and Lucas.
I was lucky to have very special friends with whom I have had many enjoyable times and with whom I have shared joy, sorrow and laughter: Sylvia Berger and Mary Hester who shared their love and their support. They showed me what true and loyal friends are like in times of need; Susan Arnold, who encouraged me to get out and have a good time. Who drove me places when I couldn't drive, kept in touch and shared many laughs with me. My dear and oldest friend, Marianne Coffey who supported me, and helped me to be strong: Gus Mastri who called often, visited me often to make sure that I was doing well and I didn't need anything. Who reassured me on a regular basis that everything would be alright and assured me often that he would always be there for me. His insistence that I never give up and his positive attitude which gave me the strength and the push I needed to keep on fighting: A special thanks to Charles (Harry) Huber, Sr., for his kindness, who drove me to all of my treatments (and there were many), and stayed with me through those long hours of chemo and radiation, and let me know that he would be available to help me at any time I needed him. A special thank you to Michele, my daughter-in-law, for helping me when I needed her the most.
There are also all of my friends with whom I worked with at UofL in Classical and Modern Languages for 34 years. Many of the faculty and staff were supportive and kind during my years at UofL and I have never forgotten them. Mary Makris and Danielle Day who kept in constant contact and let me know they cared. Manolo Medina, Isabel Pereira, Greg Hutchinson remained good friends after my retirement from UofL and their concern, kind words and deeds meant a lot to me.
I am lucky to have had many good friends such as Mike, Dennis, Rocky, Panzi to name a few. I wish I could name each and every one of my friends. Some I haven't seen as often as I would have liked, but have thought of them often.
To my family and friends:
I leave this life with love in my heart and laughter in my soul. Think of me when you encounter love or laugher and know that I will never be very far away for I will be with you in Spirit.
No public visitation or funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be paid forward to the American Cancer Association and Hosparus.
