Lucile (Lucy) Rognli passed away one week shy of 102, on Monday February 27,2023.
She was born on March 9, 1921 to William Albert Mathews II, and Hallie Lamson Mathews on a farm near Colfax, Wisconsin. In 1940 she was married to Olaf Rognli, also of Colfax. In the fall of 1941 they and their baby daughter, Janet moved to Kentucky, first to West Point and later to Valley Station. Olaf commuted to Brandenburg to work at Olin Mathison Chemical Co. After his retirement they moved to Washington State. After his death in 1998 Lucile moved back to Louisville to be near their daughter and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband , her daughter Janet Rognli Dale, and by her son-in-law Melvin Dale. Also by her sisters, Laura Mathews Atwood, Carol Mathews Hutchins, her brother William Mathews III, her nephews, Lynn, Richard, and William Mathews IV and her niece Carol Alms. Also by her three foster brothers Eldon, Everett, and Melvin Peterson and their sister Phyllis Peterson Ryan.
She was survived by her grand-daughter, Diana Dale Britton, her grand son-in-law Bill Britton and great grand-son Nicholas Britton. Also by her nieces Priscilla Atwood Fenner, Fay Hutchins Allen and Carol Mathews Alms.
She loved playing piano and organ. She was an organist at Valley Station's Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She also played for small dance bands. She wrote the words and music to silly little songs and performed them with senior friends at Senior Centers.
She lived her last years at Louisville's lovely Magnolia Spring's East and had many friends there.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
