Louis E. "Bud" Smith, 83, of Borden, Indiana passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013. Bud was a long-time farmer, the manager of Borden/Tri-County Water, and co-owner of Smith Brothers Implement. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church and was active in its Holy Name Society and at Mount St. Francis performing many good deeds and maintenance on the properties. Reputed for his dry wit and generosity, Bud was faith-filled, hard working, friendly to all, and well known in the community. He will be missed.
Bud was born to the late Louis V. and Mary Bernadine "Dena" (Koetter) Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman, Hugh, Callistus, Sr., and Julius W. Smith and sisters, Marcella Miller, Edith Ems, Regina "Jean" Jacobi, and Rita Austin.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie J. (Hess) Smith; children, Connie Schilmiller (Joe), Fr. Tom Smith, OFM Conv., Mary Jo Mayer (John), Sam Smith (Rhonda), Therese Martin (Bill), Margaret Hoffman (Kevin ), Nick Smith (Lesa), Eileen Schraffenberger (David), Doris Ooley (Mike), and Denis Smith (Lisa); brothers, Bob and George Smith (Wilma); sister, Mary Geswein (Francis); 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren (with 3 on the way); and sister-in-law, Rosetta Smith.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 6 PM Sunday, March 3, and after 9 AM on Monday at the Forest Discovery Center at Koetter Woodworking (533 Louis Smith Road, Borden). There will be a Prayer Service at 5 PM on Sunday. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church (7500 Navilleton Road, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119) with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) is in charge of the arrangements.
