Lisa Carolyn Collier transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky, in the company of her daughter, Tiffiany Collier.
She was born Lilly Carolyn Brown on June 8, 1947 to Willia Anderson (Simpson) in Dallas, Texas, and was the oldest of three children. She had one sister, Cherrie Johnson, who preceded her in death, and one brother Daniel (Pete) Simpson.
She received her primary and secondary education in Texas, demonstrating her gifts in music. She sang in the choirs at both Dunbar High School (Lubbock, TX) and at Johnson High School (Austin, TX). It was during her childhood when she would initially profess faith in Jesus Christ. Additionally, she learned to sing and play the piano, and as she grew she would sing and play at her home church, eventually playing and singing at other local churches that called upon her gifts.
Lisa would give birth to Tiffiany Nicole in Austin, Texas in July, 1966. She would eventually meet and marry John William Collier in 1968 in Travis, Texas, and the two relocated to his family home in Louisville, Kentucky. To this union was born LaTishia Roshunde Collier in 1971. After the dissolution of the marriage, Lisa would recommit her life to Christ as an adult at Greater Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, where she was baptized in Jesus' Name and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in April 1979, under the pastorate of the late Dr. William P. Foree. It was there at Greater Bethel where she began to establish firm foundation in faith, and despite challenges and mistakes, her love for God was unwavering, and her relationship with God would grow and flourish.
She would become a woman who loved prayer, Bible study, and attending and serving in church. Her desire was to see all of her family saved, and she would earnestly and fervently pray for her daughters and grandchildren. She would later join her membership with Greater Christ Refuge and Christ Temple Christian Life Center, and before her health declined, she would regularly attend Kingdom Fellowship Christian Life Center with her daughter, Tiffiany.
Along with attending church, she loved traveling, going to movies and shopping at thrift stores and consignment boutiques. She especially loved fashion and clothing, and had a definite sense of class and style (which she passed down to her daughters!) She was described as soft-spoken, classy, refined and sophisticated. But more importantly, she was loyal to her family and friends; she had a giant, generous, giving heart, and she was liberal with whatever resources she had. She thought nothing about providing
food to a hungry young person, or offering them a place to sleep until they found a permanent residence.
She loved young people, and young people loved her; she found her mission in connecting youth with resources and programs that would empower and improve their lives. Lisa would eventually receive a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Louisville (Fall 1990), and would use it during her career working with students from several middle and high schools within the Jefferson County Public Schools system.
She eventually found her dream job as a Career Planner for the Teenage Parent Program (TAPP), where she empowered and encouraged scores of adolescent mothers to continue their education, find their purpose, and work toward and achieve their life goals. She was also a doting grandmother; she loved spending time with her grandchildren, either by taking them to the movies or the bowling alley, or simply enjoying their company during sleepovers at her home.
Lisa was preceded in death by her sister and her mother. She is survived by her brother and her daughters; one niece, Tamala Johnson; three grandchildren, Asia Collier, Darian Collier and Rayzian Collier-Blincoe; and two great-grandchildren, Isiah Minter and Alonte' Durias. She also leaves behind many other extended family members, friends, former students, and associates throughout the local church community to cherish their memories of her.
Visitation will be from 10am to 1pm at Kingdom Fellowship Christian Life Center 324 E Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202 on Saturday, March 23, 2024. A celebration of Lisa's life will follow at 1pm at the church.
