Linda Kay Downs

Linda Kay Downs, 73, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. Linda was a kind, compassionate woman. She devoted many years to caring for others. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she took to heart the advice at 1 John 3:18 to love not just in word but also in deed. She loved animals and had several pets, including her cat, Fluffy. Linda enjoyed reading, taking walks, and visiting the beach. Above all she loved her family and loved to spend quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was born on April 25, 1949, in New Albany, Indiana, to John and Inez (Stiles) Sommerville. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Spalding Downs, Jr.; daughter, Denise Downs; siblings, Jimmy Sommerville, Bobby Sommerville, Roseann (Chuck) Weir, Carolyn "Dee Dee" (Wayne) Williams, Charlie Sommerville, Gene Sommerville, and Gerry (Virginia) Sommerville.

Linda is survived by her loving daughters, Tammy (Mark) Shane and Stephanie (John) Brindos; sisters-in-law, Freda Sommerville, Cathy Sommerville, Martha Sommerville, and Betty Sommerville; grandchildren, Brittanny (Anthony) Whiteside, John Morgan (Kim) Shane, Clinton (Nicole) Shane, Madoliene Brindos, Marissa Brindos, and Mallory Brindos; great-grandchildren, Broden, Emerson, and Harlow Shane; and many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service for Linda will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 4:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (4980 Brush College Rd. Floyds Knobs, IN 47119).
