Levi Roberts of Radcliff, Kentucky was born to the late Zeb Roberts and Katie Brame Roberts on May 15, 1923, in Sutherlin, Virginia. He made his tradition to heaven on August 28, 2023.
He attended St. James Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Virginia where he was baptized by Rev. Blackwell. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Ida (Rowan) Roberts on February 20, 1982, who he leaves to mourn his passing.
At the age of twenty-nine, he was drafted into the US Army on August 4, 1952. After basic training, he was shipped out to Korea. He served on the front line. While he was there, he was shot in the right leg and received many injuries throughout his body. Evidence of these injuries can be seen from the bullet fragments embedded in his body. For his service, he received a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Republic of Korea-Korean War Service Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in June 1962. While he was recuperating from his wounds he received in Korea, he was visited by Bob Hope a well-known actor and humanitarian. That visit took place at the Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland. He has a picture he took with Bob Hope in his treasures. After he stayed at Walter Reed, he returned to Virginia to live with his brother.
In 1960 he was hired as a chauffer for Judge Lucien T. Wilcox of Jefferson County Kentucky. Four years later, at forty-one, he was hired as a Jefferson County Sheriff of Louisville, Kentucky. He resigned from that position in the 1970's and was hired by Rexnord Manufacturing Co. He worked there until he retired at sixty-five. In the 1980's he opened a business called the West End Arcade and sold that business in 1984. In 1988 he was an extra in a movie called "Eight Men Out." One of the actors was Charlie Sheen. Levi played a red cap/porter at a train station. In 1994, he was one of the illustrators of a book titled "Rising Above It All" which his wife was the author.
In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, J.B. Roberts, Lenon Roberts, Ellen Roberts, Alease Bouldin, and Mattie Davenport.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his sister-in-law and care giver, Alma Rowan Williams, his daughter, Lucille Roberts Winstead, his granddaughter Katrina Roberts, great grandaughter, Karina Morris, nieces and nephews, Mattie Stoner, James Stoner, Sr., Anjanette Stoner, James Stoner, Jr., Frederick Stoner, Franklin Stoner, Lenon Roberts, Otis Roberts and Christi Roberts Hariston and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, September 8, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions. Southwest Louisville Chapel. The funeral service will begin 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mill Creek Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
