Leroy L. Walker

Leroy L. Walker, 89, of Valley Station Kentucky entered peacefully into eternal life on October 5, 2024, while in hospice care, and with his loving family by his side. He was a fantastic gardener and baseball player, loved hunting and fishing, enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, and was a devoted man of God.

Leroy was born on February 6th, 1935 in Louisville, KY to the late Clingman and Blanche Walker. He served in the Army from 1956-1958, before marrying the love of his life, Phyllis Ann Owens on May 7th, 1960. Although Leroy wanted a son, he, fortunately, was the father to three “rotten stinkin’ girls” Jeanie, Denise, and Vanessa. He played minor league baseball and almost played professionally until he suffered an injury. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, retiring in 2007 after 40 years from Engelhard Corporation at 72. Leroy could grow anything. His garden in the backyard was always plentiful and provided many vegetables and fruits for his family, neighbors, and friends.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann Owens Walker, daughter Vivian Denise Raeuchle, son-in-law Jim Raeuchle, stepmother Anna May Walker, brothers Harold Walker and James Walker, and sister Bernice Meenach. He is survived by his daughters Jeanie Montgomery (Rob) and Vanessa Johnson (Jim); grandchildren: Brandon Raeuchle (Ginny), Brittany Raeuchle (Jason), Ryan Montgomery, Matthew Montgomery, James Johnson IV, Seth Walker Johnson, and Drake Johnson; great-grandchildren Hudson and Bennett Raeuchle; sisters Mary Fisher, Wanda Kimbler, Nancy Hudson, and Carolyn Walker.

The family would like to thank Hosparus for providing wonderful care for Leroy in his final days.

Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2024, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, from 3pm-8pm.  A celebration of Leroy's life will be Tuesday, October 15, 2024, beginning at 12pm at the funeral home, followed by burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
