Leonice G. Tonnies, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Clarksville, Indiana. Born on June 13, 1939, in Middletown, Connecticut. Leonice lived a life filled with compassion and dedication, especially through her work as a registered nurse. Her career was a testament to her nurturing spirit and her commitment to caring for others, qualities that extended far beyond her professional life.

Leonice had a deep love for her family, which was evident in every interaction she had. She cherished spending quality time with her children, daughter, Lisa (Todd) Stephenson, and son, Gene (Dayleen) Tonnies, Jr. They will always remember her warm hugs and heartfelt laughter. As a grandmother, she adored her grandchildren, Justin (Molly) Tonnies and Janelle (Jay) Hachmeister, along with her great-grandchildren, Henry, Jett, Gabe, and Jacy Lee, whose lives she touched with her kindness and wisdom.

In her personal life, Leonice found joy in simple pleasures. She had a passion for baking, often filling her home with delicious aromas that brought her family together during gatherings. She also found comfort in the companionship of her beloved cat, Calie, who was a cherished part of her daily life.

Leonice is survived by her loving family, including her sister-in-law, Sherry Swanson, her niece, Stacey Swanson, and her nephew, Steven Swanson. She was predeceased by her parents, E. Leonard and Neva Swanson, and her brother, Allen Swanson, whose memories she fondly held in her heart.

As we remember Leonice G. Tonnies, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, service, and devotion to family. Her legacy is one of strength, warmth, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

It was Leonice's wishes to be cremated and taken back to Connecticut to be buried at the family cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in Leonice’s memory be made to Dubois County Humane Society in Jasper, Indiana or Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, CT.
