Leonard C. McDowell entered into eternal life on July 2, 2013. Born February 22, 1917 in Irvin, KY. to James and Maude McDowell, he was a life-long member of the Christian Church and had current membership at the First Christian Church in Louisville.
Dr. McDowell was a professor at the University of Kentucky for 26 years, but started his teaching career in a one-room school in Estill County. He had degrees from University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII.
Leonard is survived by his wife Doris; brother, Lyle McDowell; son, Kent; daughter Shirley Cotton; two step-daughters, Jacqueline Pierce and Doris Applebaum; grandchildren, Brian Flack, Dr. Matthew Pierce, Caroline Pierce and Kaitlin Pierce; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at noon on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 am Friday until time of service.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
