He worked as a long haul truck driver which moved him across the country where he remarried in July 1990 to Patti Sue Merritt and took the role of Dad to her four children. They moved from Utah to Illinois and eventually settled down for good in Louisville, KY.
As a truck driver he traveled across the country where he was known for sharing his stories of his days in the Army and also all of his unbelievable celebrity encounters and the loads he transported to various military bases, to include a time where he had his morning coffee with President Bush.

He was at home with his family again, however, he started his battles with several health conditions, including cancer.
