Lela Marie (Simmons) Wiggins, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Lela was also an excellent cook and known for baking the best bread.
She was born on August 31, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Charles and Mary (Busby) Simmons. In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wiggins; daughter, Debra Swimmer; and twelve siblings.
Lela is survived by her daughter, Kathy York; grandsons, Marcus "Brandon" York, Martin "Bradley" York, and Michael "Ben" York (Danyel); and great-grandchildren, Merrick, Marlee, Mylee, and Madelyn.
Lela's wish was to be cremated, and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with her care.
